Challenges

The Sidney Cooper Gallery is located in a historically significant area of Canterbury and has been used for community activities for many years. Gradual additions have been made compromising the main spaces and practical use of the building.

Solution

We have reimagined the gallery, retaining the Sidney Cooper’s and removing the later modern additions which cluttered the space. Our proposal keeps as much as the original building as possible while creating clear visual connections from front to back, as well as adding a Cafe, teaching space and gallery.
