Challenges
A large part of Trieste’s historic port has remained derelict for decades, contributing to urban decay, deterring investment, and leaving a significant portion of the city disconnected and underutilised.
Solution
Reimagining Hangar 21 into an innovation hub for the ‘Blue Economy’. This new district will become the home to government, multinational businesses, and start-ups, creating a dynamic place for innovation and economic prosperity.
The regional government would like the masterplan to attract international companies as well as home grown start ups..
The most important building in the masterplan is Hangar 21, a vast 3 storey grain storey made of Italian granite, facing the harbour.
Our competition winning scheme proposes creating an 'Innovation Hub' for the blue economy, housing laboratory space, workshops, office space, cafés, galleries and much more.
This exciting re-imagining of Hangar 21 will become a beacon for investment for the Friuli Venezia Giulia and create a centre of excellence at the centre of the Porto Veccio masterplan.
