Challenges

The Port of Trieste, long derelict, is being reimagined as part of a wider regeneration masterplan. An open international competition was launched to transform Hangar 21, a large historic grain store, into a mixed-use workplace and research hub for local government, major institutions and start-ups.

Solution

Our winning proposal preserves the building’s industrial heritage while establishing a new beacon for investment, talent and innovation. By opening up the deep floorplate with a central atrium and activating the roof with panoramic views across Trieste and the bay, the project creates a dynamic destination and a catalyst for wider change.
